During our last visit to St. Pete Beach Doris and I had talked about visiting Rumfish Grill in St. Pete Beach. It was only natural that on this visit we make reservations and check it out. Upon our arrival, we checked in for our reservation and were promptly guided to our booth. As we were entering another large party of approximately 20 to 25 people were being seated, so I knew that this would be a big test for the kitchen. The first thing that you notice when you walk into the dining room is the enormous fish tank and the large fish that live in it. The tank takes up the entire rear wall of the restaurant and is the absolute centerpiece of the restaurant. After dinner make sure to go around the right side of the entrance where you’ll see a sign that says tank views. Follow that to the end and you will be able to stand in an area where the tank is actually over you and in front of you. This is truly a very unique opportunity.
Liliana, our server, came over, introduced herself, and offered us water. She then brought over a basket of warm freshly baked rolls. For our drinks, Doris had the Strawberry Mojito Martini which was made with Coconut Rum and Vanilla Vodka, infused with Fresh Pineapple and strawberries, and mixed with Fresh Lime and Mint. I ordered the 1944 Mai Tai (The Real Deal) Carupano Anejo Rum, Myers Rum, Orange Curacao, Fresh Squeezed Lime, and Orgeat Syrup. I will tell you that both drinks very excellent and good pours. My Mai Tai was as good perhaps, maybe even better than the ones that I have had at Mai Kai in Fort Lauderdale. For our appetizers, we ordered Steamed Mussels and Cedar Key Clams with Chorizo, pickled onion, sherry, Spanish olive oil, and lemon. This dish is a home run. You may want to ask for extra bread in order to get every last drop of the delicious sauce. We also had an order of the Jumbo Gulf Shrimp served with Ponzu and cocktail sauce. The Shrimp were absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked with just the right snap when we bit into them. For her entrée, Doris ordered the Lobster Mac N’ Cheese -Which is made with Caribbean lobster tail, smoked bacon, and gruyere cheese. Doris’ Lobster Mac N’ Cheese Caribbean was exquisitely crafted. The cheese was creamy and moist, and the dish was loaded with lobster meat even to the detail of including a split lobster tail to the delectable presentation. I ordered the Iron Skillet Blackened Grouper which was prepared with beluga lentils, lump crab, and a green onion emulsion. My dish was absolutely remarkable. My Blackened Grouper was best described as a cornucopia of flavor. Emphatically I stated that I could eat this every day of my life and not get bored of it. There was so much going on, yet everything was in perfect harmony. The only wish for the evening was that we had saved room for dessert. After we left, we took a few pictures in the lobby and noticed that they have a huge bar and lounge area that is connected to the restaurant. They also have a beautiful gift shop that has basically everything you’ll ever need while on vacation. Don’t forget to let them know that their friends at SoFloDining sent you.
