Doris and I had the distinct honor and privilege of attending the Grand Opening night of Bagatelle Miami River, an evening that can only be described as spectacular. The experience began before we even stepped inside, greeted by a beautifully decorated entrance featuring a charming white Vespa parked out front—immediately setting the tone for a chic European escape.
A Feast for the Senses
From the moment we entered, we were treated to an array of passed hors d’oeuvres, flowing champagne, and a lavish raw oyster bar. While the cocktails were impressive, I opted for a mocktail that left me absolutely speechless: the Melon d’ Eté. A perfect mixture of watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, jasmine, and lemon, it lived up to its description of being “fresh, fruity, and short.” It was so refreshing that I am already planning my return just to have another one.
The restaurant’s aesthetics are impeccable. With the weather sitting comfortably in the low-to-mid 70s, the open-air atmosphere transported us straight to the coast of France—evoking the spirit of Cannes, Nice, or Menton. Along the Miami River frontage, elegant umbrellas shaded the tables, creating an intimate barrier against the sun while maintaining a connection to the water.
The opening festivities were vibrant, treating guests to live entertainment, caricature artists, and unique experiences like permanent jewelry welding.
A Culinary Vision
As I perused the menu, the culinary direction was clear. Led by Corporate Chef Rocco Seminara, the team strives to bring the freshest ingredients to the table, sharing the generosity and conviviality of the French Riviera. Executive Chef Marco Estrada has curated an impressive offering that reflects this vision.
Although we were there for the opening celebration, I am already eyeing specific standout dishes for my next visit, particularly the Coquille Saint-Jacques au Four (baked scallops with Bearnaise au Barolo) and Doris is conjuring visions of the Homard Bleu Thermidor (blue lobster thermidor).
The SoFloDining Verdict
For a brief moment amidst the festivities, we had the pleasure of speaking with Chef Estrada as he filled puff pastries at one of the display tables. We watched yachts and party boats drift by, soaking in the magnificence of the evening.
We look forward to returning for a formal review and have high hopes of conducting a Chef’s Table interview with Chef Marco in the very near future. We have no doubt that this area along the Miami River will be Miami’s next hot spot, and Bagatelle will be its crowning jewel.
The ultimate FOMO moment comes from delaying your visit and missing out on the Melon d’ Eté, a drink that leaves you speechless, and the stunning French Riviera atmosphere, which defines this powerhouse of modern, unforgettable Mediterranean cuisine.
