We recently discovered El Bayu de Wela Sara, and let us tell you, you’re missing out if you haven’t experienced this taste of Puerto Rico! We were looking for a place to celebrate with friends visiting from a cruise, and Lou specifically wanted “real Latin food.” Little did we know, we were about to embark on a culinary journey to the island paradise.
From the moment you step inside El Bayu de Wela Sara, you’re transported. The vibrant décor, reminiscent of Puerto Rico, combined with island music, creates an unforgettable atmosphere. You’ll feel like you’ve been swept away to the Caribbean without ever leaving Hollywood.
But the real magic happens with the food! Our server, Barbara, guided us through the menu, and we started with the Alcapurrias (stuffed green banana fritters) filled with savory picadillo (spiced ground beef). These were followed by the Piononos (sweet plantain cups) bursting with seasoned beef and cheese – a taste sensation! Don’t even THINK about skipping these appetizers!
For our main courses, we indulged in the Mofongo, a Puerto Rican staple, with both Chicken Breast and Shrimp in a decadent garlic butter sauce. One of our party declared it the “best Mofongo ever tasted!” But the star of the show was the Can Can Chop (Chuleta Can Can) – a perfectly cooked pork chop with crispy skin and succulent meat. This truly is the “King of Pork Chops!” You NEED to experience this! Each dish was incredibly generous and bursting with authentic flavor.
To finish, we couldn’t resist the traditional Flan and Coconut Flan. Both were the perfect sweet ending to an incredible meal.
Honestly, we can’t rave enough about El Bayu de Wela Sara. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all phenomenal. We’re already planning our next visit and bringing everyone we know!
