When the search for authentic Greek and Turkish coastal flavors leaves you overwhelmed, trust the transportive experience: Mandolin Aegean Bistro is the unequivocal “must-visit.” This restaurant has been a long time coming for a full review, but the moment you enter the blue gates, you are instantly transported to the tavernas along Aegean coastal towns—you no longer feel that you are in Miami.
The atmosphere is one of vibrant, historic celebration. Owners Ahmet Erkaya and Anastasia Koutsioukis poured their attention to detail into restoring a 1940’s home and its surrounding patio and gardens. The ambiance has a totally separate vibe from the surrounding Wynwood area. Every detail, down to the staff’s very fashionable denim aprons (so chic!), speaks of an intentional, high-quality experience.
The flavors are extraordinary. The goal was to get a feel of the kitchen’s range and palette, and the appetizers did not disappoint—one was better than the next. We started with The Greek Sampler (Tzatziki, Olive, and Tirokafteri) and the Roasted Cauliflower with Aleppo peppered garlic yogurt. You absolutely must order the Mussels with white wine, garlic, lemon, and oregano; the sauce was so flavorful we were tempted to pick up the bowl and drink it! The Fried Calamari was fork-tender, but the Almond Tarator Dip stole the show!
For the main experience, you must try the highly recommended seafood. The Grilled Octopus lived up to the hype: it was perfectly cooked, very moist and tender, not dry. The food is incredibly fresh, authentic, and flavorful.
Mandolin Aegean Bistro offers dining experiences that few other restaurants dare to attempt, specializing in transporting the diner to another world through ambiance and execution. The service is impeccable and absolutely on point! For dessert, the Pistachio Baklava and the Fig Tart were both perfection and delicious.
The ultimate FOMO moment comes from realizing this spot’s popularity. The combination of incredible food and unique atmosphere guarantees high demand.
This restaurant’s reputation means you must make reservations well in advance. Be aware that parking is at a premium in Wynwood, so arrive early. Make sure to order the Grilled Octopus; it’s one of the best that you will ever have.
