Papa’s Raw Bar

This is our second time back at Papa’s Raw Bar and it is only getting better. For our drinks Doris had a Mule and I had a Pilar and Coke, both drinks again were great pours. On this visit, we ordered the Fried Calamari w/ Dynamite Sauce that was absolutely Dyn-o-mite! Fast Eddie’s Fried Rice with Shrimp which is one of the best that I have had in a very long time.  We then finished the evening with a Lenny’s Lobster Bomb which is Lobster Tempura, Lettuce, Cucumber, Avocado topped w/ Masago, Sesame Seeds & Bomb Sauces served w/ a lobster tail full of more Lobster Bites. Our server was excellent and you get the feeling that the staff in general runs like a well oiled machine.

I must say, from the moment that we approached the hostess desk till the time that we left we felt welcome and our questions were anticipated and answered. We experienced a level of care that is a perfect blend of professionalism, order and familiarity that are a true breath of fresh air in the service industry.  The Seafood is so fresh that words cannot do the freshness any justice.  Do yourself a favor and visit soon.

On our previous visit, the server whose name I forgot was absolutely amazing! She was friendly and totally professional.  Shortly after we were seated at the bar, she introduced herself and asked if this had been our first time visiting Papa Hughie’s and we told her it was.  She explained the menu and variations offered on the menu.  She showed us the drink menu and said that she would get us water to give us time to go over the menus.  If you watched our “Pet Peeves” series you would know that her level of professionalism was PERFECTION.

The relaxed atmosphere makes this a perfect spot to unwind with some fresh seafood and great drinks. Live music is a real plus. We had the Tito’s Vodka Mule and an Old Fashioned both good pours and on point for our drinks. We ordered the Conch Fritters for our appetizer.  The fritters were perfectly fried and loaded with conch.

They were as good as any that we have had including a few places in the Keys. Our entrées were an absolutely delicious Shrimp Salad and a Bangin Po’Boy. The Po’Boy had plenty of good-sized shrimp and the Shrimp Salad had to be about a half-pound of shrimp. They had an awesome outside covered dining area that we will need to try on our next visit.

The menu is loaded with a terrific selection and variety of locally caught fresh seafood items as well as an extensive sushi menu. Papa’s is top-notch and we will definitely be back soon and often. It’s a large place with great service, good food and prices, and live music nightly.

The venue has a real Key West vibe and is part of the Eat Drink and be Local “good vibes only”. This place is an absolute MUST for Locals as well as Visitors.
