We had the honor of visiting Kanpai during the Sneak Peek Night the evening before the Official Grand Opening. The festivities ran flawlessly with Ali at the Helm.
There have been several changes during the makeover. The cherry blossoms are back but the floating Sushi boats are gone. A brand-new revamped sushi bar is in its place. It seems to have even more seating area than before. The dining room has been redecorated and the entire menu has been revamped.
Upon entering immediately to your right, you will see the full bar which serves the inside of the restaurant and the outside patio. Just past the hostess desk to the left, you’ll see some seating for diners who would like to order off the menu. Slightly above that you will see the area that houses the Yakiniku grills. Walking straight back you will see a fully appointed sushi bar with the cherry blossom-decorated sake bar behind it. The main attraction was and still is the Yakiniku grills. I believe there are 13 grills and one large booth area grill.
We started off with 2 drinks that Elana our server recommended. Doris had the Lychee Martini made with Haku Vodka, Lychee, St. Germaine, and Lemon which was the absolute Rave of the Night. I opted for the Devil’s Advocate a drink made with Tequila, Chinola, Passionfruit, Serrano, and Lime sour in a glass coated in Togarashi Salt. I would highly recommend both drinks without hesitation. On this evening the grills were not on. We immediately agreed upon ordering the Hibachi Fried Rice made with Large Shrimp, onion, scallion, carrot, and Garlic Butter, and the Bulgogi which consisted of Shaved Korean Short Rib, Caramelized onion, Scallion, Sesame, accompanied by a hot plate of Jasmine white rice. The fried rice was absolutely delicious! There had to be at least a dozen shrimp in my rice. The Bulgogi was melt in your mouth with an explosion of flavors absolutely unique so much so that the flavors on both dishes were unparallel. Kanpai definitely has something for everyone – a full sushi bar, and sake bar. However, remains the sole dining establishment in Southern Palm Beach and Broward counties offering yakiniku (Japanese Barbecue) and a full menu.
This restaurant is so special, where else can you start your night off at the sushi bar then you can try your hand at Yakiniku (grilling). Yes, you actually get to grill your own food on a smokeless grill in the center of the table. For the first-timers, I suggest picking a combo so that you can get a little bit of everything. Or just order something off the menu. As mentioned, there is both outdoor and indoor bar/lounge seating available. You cannot, not love, this place! It’s a party every time we’ve visited. We love what you’ve done with the place. You truly have outdone yourself, Lixii Sun, kudos on Kanpai!
Looks great- can’t wait to try it!
