Doris and I found ourselves back in St. Petersburg. As a prerequisite whenever we come to St. Petersburg, we visit with our friends Jordan and Emily. They had suggested that we meet up at one of their local favorites, The Lure. Doris and I have read and heard a lot about this location and actually had it on our list of places to visit.
We decided to meet up at the location for happy hour, upon our arrival, Brooke, the hostess, advised us that we were welcome to sit wherever we liked as the place was just starting to fill up. Jordan, Emily, and Kevin arrived shortly thereafter. The place is very open and airy, the tables are well-spaced so that you are not on top of anybody. There are two pool tables which are located midway through the restaurant, adjacent to an area with a few High tops. We ordered a variety of drinks Rum and Coke, Moscow Mule, Painkiller, along with Jai Alai beer. All of the mixed drinks were good pours and crafted properly. In fact, we had a second round of each.
For our food, we ordered a good mix of sushi. We started with
· The Marley which is braised pork belly, sliced and seared, on a wonton crisp, topped with an apple chutney and habanero honey,
· Seaweed Salad prepared with Japanese marinated wakame with krab stick.
· Shrimp Tempura which is made with tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumber, and spicy mayo, topped with smelt roe and sesame seeds.
· Red Dragon made with shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and cucumber rolled in seaweed and rice, topped with more tuna, eel sauce, and spicy mayo.
· Bacon- 8-Her An obscene amount of bacon, asparagus, and avocado wrapped in soy paper topped with eel sauce and tempura chips.
· Tuna Tartare Tower made with minced yellowfin tuna, scallions, red onions, fried capers tossed with Rayui oil and kimchee base served with wonton chips topped with micro cilantro and black tobiko
All of the dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. This is definitely a location that Doris and I will revisit. After all, we have to return in order to each enjoy a full dinner and to be able to provide a more complete review of The Lure. Even though we have not done a complete review, I must insist that I highly recommend this location for lunch or even Happy Hour. Don’t forget to let them know that their friends at SoFloDining sent you.
