From the moment you step out of your car, you can smell the deliciousness of what you are about to experience. Upon entering the foyer you can feel the history of Tropical Acres come alive. They have been family-owned and operated since 1949, now in their fourth generation. I have been going to this establishment since the late 70’s. Despite being a child then, I realized early on that their reputation as one of the best steakhouses in South Florida is as evident today as it was then. I can hardly believe that they still have a live piano player in the main dining room. That is the epitome of CLASS.
Update: We were a 6 pm party of 8 on a Friday evening. Doris and I arrived early as to partake in One of the Best Happy Hours in town. Doris and I quickly befriended another couple at the bar who, like us, were locals and regulars. Our barmaid, Ann, did an awesome job with our drinks. She was amazingly flowing as she was taking complete care of the entire room, solo. She was even delivering food to the tables in the lounge while taking care of a full bar. Our sliders and escargot & mushroom appetizers were perfect. This place runs like a well-oiled machine. Our party arrived, we were seated and then we ordered a mixed appetizer combo that we all devoured. Doris and I both ordered the 2 Lobster Special, which in my opinion, is one of the best deals in town. Our servers, Laura and Arthur, were an incredible team. Our party was celebrating a Birthday and the Piano Player announced their name as well as others in the dining room who were also celebrating as well. We then sang the Birthday song along with the others. A Wonderful time was had by all. As usual, everything, including our desserts and cappuccinos, was excellent.
We arrived at 6:15 on a rainy Saturday night with no reservations. Of course, we were expecting a wait. We checked in with the host and were informed that it would be an approximate 50-minute wait. We made our way to the spacious lounge area and decided to do appetizers and drinks at the bar although there were tables available. The lounge is warm and inviting, the service at the bar excellent and our cocktails were perfection in a glass thanks to Russell. For our appetizers, we ordered the Stuffed Mushroom Caps that are filled with seafood stuffing and then topped with a delicate Hollandaise sauce. We also had the Escargot that come prepared in a shallot butter sauce with garlic toast.
No sooner than we were done with our appetizers, just like the movement of a fine Swiss watch, Doris and I were whisked away by Kate and were seated at a cozy table in the main dining room. I absolutely loved the timing of it! For our entrée, we ordered the “NY Strip for Two” that comes butterflied and is about 24 – 26 oz. We added 2 4oz Lobster Tails to our meal and selected Steamed Broccoli and a Baked Sweet Potato. Our salad choice was a delicious Caesar salad which balanced out with our meat. The steak was delicious, prepared to perfection and so tender that it practically melted in my mouth like butter. The lobster tails were succulent and juicy, served with drawn butter which was the perfect combination. Everything was absolutely delicious!! As for dessert we opted for the Classic Key Lime Pie. Needless to say, it was simply what you would expect from this Famous Florida Iconic Restaurant.
Tropical Acres is so well known for good reason, they continue to serve and maintain the standard of absolutely delicious food served in its Old School Florida Style Steakhouse setting for decades a family-operated restaurant with tons of tradition. Tropical Acres has maintained the standard for what a traditional Florida-style steakhouse should be. Always amazing!! Truly, one of the best steaks you will EVER eat. Don’t forget to tell them that their friends at SoFloDining sent you.
