Vic’s On the River – 26 East Bay Street, Savannah, GA: second-floor table jutting right over the river, boats gliding past while we ate. First time I ever tasted fried green tomatoes-now I’m addicted, order them everywhere. We ordered a po’boy sandwich, grits, and pecan pie. www.vicontheriver.com

Agave Bar and Grill – 2814 Garden City Connector, Port Wentworth, GA: sizzling plates, fresh tortillas, and one of the only taps in the country-Sol beer flowing right next to Dos Equis. We attacked the fajitas, the quesadilla, and the beer-like last call in Tijuana. www.agavebarandgrill.com

Harris Steak and Seafood – Brunswick, GA: what a great loss. It was one of those spots where everything just worked-blackened pork chop, shrimp and grits, the stuffed potato skins. We really enjoyed every bite. Wish them all the luck, and honestly, hope they resurface soon.

Toucan’s Ale House – 2450 Perry Lane Road, Brunswick, GA: It is a fun, casual spot in Brunswick, GA, that feels like a classic neighborhood pub with a Southern flair. The atmosphere is laid-back, making it a great place to relax with friends or family. They’re well-known for having a huge selection of over 75 beers, but the food is what really sets them apart.
When I ate there, I loved the regional specialties, especially the Brunswick Stew—it was clearly homemade and delicious. The menu also features plenty of fresh seafood and pub classics. Trying the blackened shrimp dinner and the blackened salmon Caesar confirmed they do a great job with their fresh dishes and offer good variety. It’s the perfect place to grab a bite, enjoy a cold drink, and just kick back! www.toucansalehouse.com
