When the search for a dining experience where hipster meets exceptional cuisine leaves you overwhelmed, trust the Ocean Drive classic: A Fish Called Avalon is the unequivocal “must-visit.” This restaurant personally blew me away with its professionalism and class—a welcome departure from the cliché tourist food often found on South Beach.
The atmosphere is one of vibrant, refined celebration. From the curbside Hostess Podium to the dining room setup, the restaurant exudes a sophistication that instantly transports you. The refined aesthetics and the smooth coordination of the staff set a high bar. I recommend A Fish Called Avalon to anyone looking for a romantic or family fun celebratory dining experience.
The flavors are extraordinary. You absolutely must prepare for a culinary adventure. The food was very interesting, creative, and a departure from simple concepts, adding a refreshing Eastern Mediterranean Flare right down to the hummus. Every dish was a new adventure in flavor and texture.
We started with the Spanish Octopus (charcoal grilled with a Madeira squid ink reduction) that I can only describe as delicious! The Atlantic Wild Mussels served in a Champagne, tarragon, and cream sauce were also incredible; be sure to use the fresh baked hot bread to soak up the insanely delicious sauce.
For our next dishes, our waiter Alejandro picked the Lump Crab Cake with Shrimp (simply amazing) and the Bang Bang Shrimp. The Bang Bang Shrimp, served with a Brown Sugar Butter, Turmeric, Curry, and Yogurt Cucumber Mint Sauce, were, without a doubt, the highlight of the meal for me—you’ll want to come back just for them.
A Fish Called Avalon offers dining experiences that few other restaurants dare to attempt, specializing in creative seafood and unforgettable desserts. Our visit more than exceeded our expectations, resulting in a meal that was arguably the best I’ve had in Miami. For cocktails, I recommend the 1941 Mai Tai.
The ultimate FOMO moment comes from the dessert. Alejandro surprised us with the award winning 2019 National Pie Champion Pecan-Crusted Key Lime Pie, which will take your whole meal to a new level.
This restaurant’s reputation means planning is simple. The evening was a 10/10 in every category. They have a large parking lot 1 block away, and they pour great hand crafted drinks. Don’t forget to order the Key Lime Pie!
