If you have been searching for an authentic Italian experience in Fort Lauderdale, the search is over! We recently visited Il Mulino, a local landmark where the recipes have been passed down through three generations. This isn’t the “influencer” flavor-of-the-week; this is three generations of tradition served on a plate. Since 1987, this family has been showing their love through authentic Italian cooking, and we were honored to experience that legacy firsthand.

The Perfect Pour and Professional Service

We started the afternoon with a refreshing Italian Spritzer for Doris WithaD. It was a perfect pour—bright, crisp, and balanced. Our server, Priscila, was exceptionally attentive and professional. In an era where true hospitality is often missing, her attention to detail was a breath of fresh air. This is the level of service our “Adult Dining” demographic expects and deserves.

The Appetizer: A Technical Triumph

We kicked things off with the Turner New Zealand Calamari. This dish featured sweet drop peppers and crispy zucchini, but the texture of the calamari was the real story—it was truly melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It was served with a house-made marinara that is easily one of the best I have tasted in a very long time. When all your sauces and soups are made in-house daily, this is the superior result you get.

The Main Event: A 30-Year Reunion

Doris opted for the Homemade Lasagna with Bolognese from the Petite Entrées menu. This is a dish steeped in classic Italian flavors, served in a perfectly sized portion alongside a fresh salad. After her first bite, Doris remarked that the lasagna was just as incredible as she remembered it being 30 years ago. Consistency over three decades is what separates a professional kitchen from the amateurs.

I decided to test out a brand-new addition to the menu: The TURNER Smashburger. This is an ultra-premium, 100% grass-fed and free-range New Zealand beef burger. Two patties were layered with melted mozzarella, fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion on a perfectly toasted bun. Paired with crispy fries, a signature house sauce, and a vibrant basil aioli, it’s a brilliant execution of flavors that respects the quality of the beef.

A Sweet Conclusion

We ended the day on a high note with the Almond Basket. Set atop a cloud of whipped cream and filled with vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, and a tart berry sauce, it was the ideal finish to a spectacular meal.
