For travelers and locals seeking authentic, unpretentious Middle Keys waterside dining, Dockside Boot Key Harbor delivers the quintessential Florida Keys experience. Acting on a solid recommendation from our friend Mike Guzzi, we spent our final evening in town here before heading back north to Broward County. It immediately proved to be the ideal spot to unwind. Set right on the water with open-air views of the harbor and evening sunset, the venue was humming with genuine local energy—complete with interactive entertainment like Name That Tune, karaoke, and a lively neighborhood crowd that packed the house.
The bar program keeps things straightforward, refreshing, and fairly priced. Doris enjoyed a crisp Aperol Spritz, while a classic Jack and Coke offered a well-balanced, generous pour. From the kitchen, the meal started with their Conch Fritters, a traditional island staple that serves as a direct indicator of frying technique. Rather than the dense, doughy fillers often pushed out for tourists, these fritters are executed to true form: golden and crisp on the outside, light and tender inside, and generously studded with palatable, flavorful conch meat.
The entrées highlight solid coastal comfort execution and fresh product. The Shrimp Po’ Boy features large, plump shrimp coated in a light batter and fried to a clean golden crunch. Tucked into a soft hoagie roll with fresh lettuce, sliced ripe tomatoes, signature house Dockside sauce, and accompanied by cool, creamy coleslaw, the sandwich hits all the proper textural marks. The Blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwich is a standout display of searing discipline: a generous, thick filet of fresh mahi seared evenly on both sides with balanced Cajun blackening spices, locking in natural juices so the fish remains moist, flaky, and meltingly tender beneath the crisp crust, served with lettuce, tomato, and onion.
Between the honest seafood execution, reasonable pricing, welcoming waterside atmosphere, and prime harbor sunset views, Dockside Boot Key Harbor earns its place as a dependable local favorite in Marathon. We will definitely make it a regular stop on future trips.
