When the search for a memorable, quirky eatery on the revitalized Eastside of Las Olas leaves you overwhelmed, trust the cornerstone: Casa Sensei is the unequivocal “must-visit.” Located on the Hermershee Canal, this unique restaurant has been on our list forever, and we will definitely be going back with friends and family.
The atmosphere is one of vibrant, expansive celebration. The restaurant’s spaces are varied, with every section different from the other. You can choose from Street Café Style dining on Las Olas, waterside dining directly along the canal, or slightly elevated seating that offers protection from the elements. Inside, they offer a fully appointed bar, a full sushi bar, and an intimate rear dining area for private parties. The extensive seating, combined with the food and drink, is what brings the Casa Sensei experience all together.
The flavors are extraordinary. You absolutely must try the small plates, especially the tacos. We started with fresh popcorn dressed with Kimchi butter that was simply delicious (Doris asked for a second bowl!). The White Sangria was the right balance of fruit and flavor.
For the main experience, the small plates were a home run. The Tacos de Casa—made with tender & juicy slow cooked shredded pork—made my list of some of the best tacos that I have ever had. The Rock Shrimp Tempura arrived in a martini glass, featuring tender shrimp coated with just the right amount of Chipotle Mayo. The Chino Sticky Ribs were fall off the bone tender, cooked and dressed to perfection. The LA Street Tacos with BBQ skirt steak were another home run!
Casa Sensei offers dining experiences that few other restaurants dare to attempt, specializing in Asian-Latin fusion and unbeatable location. The extensive menu has a little bit of something for everybody, from Soups and Salads to Latino Bites and Dim Sum. They also bring you a sweet surprise with the bill – a bowl of Cotton Candy!
The ultimate FOMO moment comes from realizing the breadth of the experience. The combination of creative cuisine, lively atmosphere, and water views makes this a must-do. You can even order meals from Sensei to enjoy on the Gondola if you please. We are definitely going back to try some of the larger plates and the desserts!
This restaurant’s popularity means you must make reservations in advance. They have a large public indoor parking lot attached to the building for easy access.
