On our latest trip to St. Pete Beach, Doris and I discovered what we can only describe as this area’s newest gem.  During our first night in St. Pete Beach we decided that after the 4-hour drive, we would dine locally. I recalled seeing Taverna on The Bay directly across the street when we arrived at the Tradewinds Resort.  Shortly after 8:00 p.m., we walked directly across the street to the restaurant, and we were greeted by a most cordial hostess. We were seated at a table for two overlooking the bay.

Our server Petar greeted us, introduced himself, offered us water, and took our order.  For our starter, we ordered the Bang Bang Cauliflower which was an absolutely incredible appetizer.  This Bang Bang Cauliflower is both spicy and sweet.  Its bite-sized pieces of fresh Cauliflower are breaded, baked to a light golden brown then tossed in a homemade bang bang sauce.  These were so good we really couldn’t get enough of this delicious appetizer.  In fact, a few days later, at the ribbon cutting, we were more than happy to enjoy them again.  Doris ordered the Shrimp and Grits, which are creamy grits topped with Saucy shrimp, onions, peppers, and bacon which create a most flavorful rendition.   I ordered the Tuscan Butter Shrimp, simmered in a creamy garlic parmesan sauce spiked with Italian herbs, sun-dried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and baby spinach.  Chef Jimmy Stavrianakis has the touch!  I can tell you that this is a dish that will become your favorite once you become a regular.

The restaurant is very open and airy, and the view of the Bay, is incredible.  They have a sizable inside and outside lounge area as well as a beautiful dining area and offer al fresco dining.  On a side note, we also tried the Fried Calamari appetizer which was comprised of tender pieces of squid soaked in buttermilk, coated in, and with seasoned flour, and deep fried to golden brown perfection.  The calamari were absolutely delicious and actually fork tender. A few days later Doris and I returned to be part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony and represent SoFloDining.com on the West Coast. We spoke with the Owner, Dragan Lazarevic, and the General Manager, Peter Vergiris who were both very nice and welcoming. We wish them much success and many years of prosperity.  OPAAA!  We will be visiting this restaurant whenever we are in the area.  Don’t forget to tell them that their friends at SoFloDining sent you.
