When the Florida Keys dining scene leaves you overwhelmed, trust the locals (and the Visitor Center!): Lazy Days South is the unequivocal “must-visit.” The moment you enter, you are instantly engulfed by the rich, unmistakable aroma of local seafood and fresh ocean breezes. This is where impeccable service meets unexpected culinary abundance in a location easily accessible on foot, by car, or by boat.
The atmosphere is one of vibrant celebration, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Knights Key, and the new Isla Bella Beach Resort—it truly offers the most beautiful view. Every detail—from the fresh décor to the above-and-beyond service gesture from Mena—speaks of sophisticated hospitality. This spot is clearly a local institution, having won Best Waterfront Dining multiple times, and the family-owned restaurant has much to be proud of.
The flavors are extraordinary. Start with a handcrafted drink, such as the classic Lazy Mule (made with Smirnoff Vodka and ginger beer) or perhaps one of their delicious, colorful creations. For lunch, entrées like the Lion Fish and the Hog Fish Piccata Sandwiches deliver incredible, robust flavors and were both cooked perfectly. We asked for our sandwiches to be split, and Mena had the kitchen plate them half-and-half to ensure a mess-free switch—a sign of truly fantastic service.
Lazy Days South offers experiences that few other restaurants dare to attempt. On your next visit, you must not miss the appetizer ritual, which can include utilizing their excellent Hook and Cook service for the freshest possible meal. The menu maintains the same emphasis on top quality and local seafood as its sister restaurant in Islamorada.
The ultimate FOMO moment comes with the combination of great views, terrific service, and deliciously prepared food. Their daily Happy Hour (2 pm to 6 pm at the bar) offers yet another great reason to visit.
This restaurant is highly recommended, but beware: there is usually a long wait to be seated for dinner. Make reservations in advance to guarantee your table for this truly special occasion spot, which offers plenty of parking and mooring dockside.
