Doris and I have been visiting Sea Watch on a regular basis for a long while, and we still can’t get enough. From the moment that you pull into the large parking lot in an otherwise crowded neighborhood, you know that you have arrived at a special place. You immediately have a choice of free valet parking or parking your own vehicle.
Follow the steps to the RED Solid Core Oak Door that almost 10 million satisfied guests have passed through. You instantly feel transported back to a time when elegance and class meant something. The restaurant has been in operation for nearly 50 years.
Upon entering you’ll see a waiting/seating area immediately to the left. There’s a hostess counter immediately to the right and a brick staircase straight ahead. I recommend that you get there early and visit the upstairs lounge and deck.
We entered and went directly upstairs to see if we can get a table outside on the deck. (In my humble opinion this has got to be one of the best dining views on the South Florida coastline. We started off we drinks Doris had a Moscow Mule and I ordered a Godmother and both drinks were perfection, thank you, Nina.
We started off with a few appetizers, first the Boathouse Baked Oysters. The baked oysters are baked and topped with Cayenne pepper-apple wood bacon butter, garlic, and watercress. Then, the Fried Calamari is prepared by lightly frying the calamari to a perfect golden brown and accompanying it with Soy ginger-sesame-lime-cilantro & basil aioli sauces.
It was a chilly day so we ordered two cups of the Lobster Bisque that were absolutely amazing. It was a perfect consistency and had just the right amount of Sherry with loads of lobster and tons of flavor. We ordered our entrees Doris selected the Diane Salad which consists of diced chicken breast, slivered almonds, crisp noodles, shredded lettuce, and toasted sesame seeds. I ordered the Karen’s Club which is prepared with sliced grilled chicken breast, Monterey Jack cheese, crisp applewood bacon, tomato, avocado, & mayonnaise on grilled sourdough bread and French fries. We also would highly recommend The Blackened Mahi-Mahi Sandwich topped with lettuce, tomato, & mayonnaise on a cornmeal Kaiser bun served with fries. I think over the years we have basically tried everything on the menu at least once and if I was tasked with trying to pick one dish it would be a challenge. There are so many great dishes from which to choose.
Now I know we say this in a lot of our reviews but seriously leave room for dessert. Sea Watch makes one of the best Creme Brulee around and it is the standard by which we usually judge other Creme Brulee.
As I’ve mentioned earlier this is a very busy restaurant. Many people do not know about the upstairs lounge or the beautiful deck. (I was going there for over 10 years before I found out about it.) Please take our advice and get there early and check it out. The view is especially beautiful during the daylight hours. A selfie or group shot looks awesome on your social media page.
The service is always impeccable and the drinks are spot on. If you’re in the Fort Lauderdale area visit Lauderdale by the Sea. This is a “must go to” a “tourist’s delight”. It’s also wonderful for special occasions and they even have a private function room. At any given time, you may see weddings and other celebratory events taking place on the lawn between the restaurant and the beach.
